We drop down and walk along the river Wye from Monsal Head, a climb to Sheldon with a visit to the Cock and Pullet, making our way back down to the river crossing sheepwash bridge to the Bulls head Inn at the end of the village. and returning via a choice of 2 routes back to the Monsal Head Hotel with a drink in the beer garden if weather permits. Round trip is c6miles, taking 3 hours excluding drinking time!
Monsal Head, Little and Great Longstone
Starting at the Mosal Head hotel, cross the road down the lane to Little Longstone Packhorse then onto Great Longstone with a choice of the Crispin or White Lion. We then head to the monsal trail for our return to Monsal Head. Round trip c4miles, taking 2 hours excluding drinking time.
Alstonfield, Biggin and Hartington
The George in Alstonfield is the “one for the road”, with a choice of pubs in Hartington, then across to Biggin with a visit to the Biggin Hall country house hotel. Round trip on this one is c8miles, taking 4hours excluding drinking time!
Ticknal & Calke
Easy walk, terrain is tracks and some grassy paths. Views of Staunton Harold resevoir and Calke estate with a stop at the Wheel pub. Calke is owned by the National Trust and the house has extensive grounds open to the public.
